Welcome to the Research Reviews!
The purpose of this column is to share with you the current research related to DID, EDS, MCAS, POTS, CSF leaks, and other chronic illnesses — from the point of view of the non-professional.
One of the unfortunate facts about medical research is that it’s not widely available to the general public without institutional access to professional journals. I have this access as a researcher myself, albeit in mathematics. But this is a problem because for many of us, we would love to understand what is happening inside of our bodies and the bodies of those we love. We search for hope.
Being the partner of somebody with Stealth Syndrome (the EDS trifecta) and DID, I search for answers through research so that I can stand up and be the voice my partner needs during those inevitable moments that lead to dismissal, doubt, and misdiagnosis. More than that, I want to understand completely the possibilities of what the cutting edge has to offer, so that we can keep hope alive that a better quality of life is possible.
I am not an expert. I have no background in medicine. Please do not take these Research Reviews as medical or professional advice of any kind. This is simply my own summary of the research I read. While I will always speak to the best of my understanding, I will undoubtedly misinterpret things from time to time. That being said, I will give you my genuine and best efforts in summarizing the research of the world’s leading experts.
Enjoy, and be well.
